Our Inspiration: Laura's Legacy

The Laura's Orchard Model: Simplified Accessible Living

Our first two purpose-built bungalows are designed for families with a child or young adult with severe physical disability.

Key Home Features:

  • Level floors and wide layouts to accommodate large mobility equipment.
  • Spacious doorways for easy maneuverability of wheelchairs and equipment.
  • Dedicated bedroom suite with direct garden access
  • En-suite wet room designed for ease of use.
  • H-frame ceiling tracking system extending between the bedroom suite and wet room.

A Family Transformed: The Kemp's Story

On June 1, 2022, Sam, Summer, and Fynn Kemp moved into our inaugural home, experiencing firsthand the transformative impact of accessible living. In Sam's own words, their family's situation "has improved in all aspects."

 Key improvements include:

  • Effortless bathing: "I can now bath my daughter in her accessible wet room... I no longer need to lift her and lower her into a bath."
  • Seamless mobility: "The corridors at Laura’s Orchard are very wide, meaning I can easily move her from room to room in her wheelchair... The doorways are very wide meaning I can move her equipment in and out of house much more easily."
  • Stress-free parking: "The parking is ideal as it’s a big open space... access to Summer’s Mobility van won’t be impaired."

Sam emphasizes, "The benefit to my daughter and our family has been beyond description... this new environment specifically designed with disability in mind... is so much better suited to her and her individual needs."

Our Vision and How You Can Help

Our journey with Laura illuminated a profound need for better housing solutions for those with severe physical disabilities. Laura's Orchard facilitates the provision of homes that are not only accessible but also simplify the process, reduce costs, promote equality, and are environmentally conscious.

This is just the beginning for Laura's Orchard, and we are grateful for your interest in our vision. Our ultimate aim is to significantly improve housing provision for individuals living with disabilities throughout England and Wales. This is a considerable goal, and we wholeheartedly welcome your support.

Creating a Laura’s Orchard home
There are many ways to contribute to creating a Laura's Orchard home, and we're actively seeking partners to help us grow. Property owners, developers, landlords, housing associations, fundraisers, and volunteers are all welcome.

We seek individuals who:

  • have an accessible property for lease
  • have a property for adaptation and lease
  • are interested in building a Laura's Orchard property, or
  • can assist with fundraising for a new home.

The Laura's Orchard team provides guidance and support throughout the process.
